photo update

yep, she discovered how to pull herself up in her crib...can you tell how proud she is!! this has made for an interesting few days of naps. day 1 she couldn't figure out how to get down and would cry, i would go in and lay her down, she would stand up, cry, etc., etc. until i let her cry and she figured out how to fall down. after a few long falls straight on her back she found the better way to her bottom. now when i put her down for a nap she goes up/down (very happily) for about an hour before falling asleep!!! so her naps have been very short because she is so excited about this new trick!

she is now officially a clapper! we just need to work on getting some force behind those claps so that she can make some noise...or wait, maybe this is a good thing. especially since she is a LOUD squealer/screamer with a VERY high pitch (ear piercing) girly scream...that's probably all the noise we need for now!

sierra LOVES babies - in pictures and real ones! she loves to find the babies on the diaper boxes and touch them. she is so sweet :)

this is her new nap position! ever since she learned to stand up in her crib, she has napped this way. so after an hour or so of playing stand up/sit down, she falls asleep sitting down! i haven't figured out if this is on purpose or if she literally falls asleep while playing. but with her animals piled up for a pillow it seems pretty intentional!

we are all having a blast and are a little extra tired by the end of the day. thank the Lord she is still going straight to sleep at night and sleeping through!!

the clapper

...and i thought yesterday's milestones would be it for the week, but nope...we apparently are adding to the list by the day!!! it's like all of a sudden a switch was turned on and things are clicking...it is so amazing to watch that little mind learn and figure out how things work!

today Sierra learned how to clap!!! she has been fascinated with my clapping since the beginning and often would put her hands over mine while i clapped, but it wasn't until this afternoon that she started to clap on her own! and she LOVES it!!!

...also, and this is random but she developed a new napping position: sitting down, leaning forward, with her head on top of her stuffed animals. it looks super uncomfortable, but she liked it enough to sleep that way for both naps today!

oh yeah, and she turned 9 months old today!!!!!!!!!!

a big day

today was a big day for our little Sierra!

she started crawling...real, on all fours crawling! whoa!!!! already she is stopping at every teeny tiny spec on the floor to inspect it, pick it up and try to put it in her mouth. i'm going to have to get back to my daily anal cleaning! look out world, she is on the move :)

...and she figured out how to stand up in her crib!!! ...but couldn't figure out how to get back down. poor thing - she had a couple of big falls but at least her crib mattress is so soft and bouncy.

phew, it was a long and big day...and we're all pooped. i can't believe how fast she is growing up (so cliche, but so so true)! every day she seems more like a kid and less like a baby.

on the move!

All month Sierra has been trying to crawl AND walk! The girl has sooo much energy and determination...but she's a bit of a scaredy cat!

Just this past week she is able to "crawl" - it's a combination of army crawl, scoot and actual hands/knees crawling - across a room and from one room to another (...and without bribing her by putting her favorite toys or food in front of her! haha)!

this was a few weeks ago - it didn't get her anywhere at the time because she would get into position and then flatten out like a pancake. but i'm sure it helped to stretch and strengthen those muscles!

since she was about 7 1/2 months old, she has LOVED LOVED LOVED standing. of course she couldn't do this on her own, so she learned to find our fingers (seriously, she looks for fingers so she can grab on and pull up to her feet). then she advanced to holding on to tables/chairs to stand. she is now learning how to pull herself up on objects and walk around while holding on to tables/chairs...finally! it is getting really hard to constantly walk the girl around with my fingers!!

she was playing peekaboo with daddy and cracking up!!!!!!!! it was sooooo cute!

this is a super fun stage but i can already forsee a lot of bumps on the head, daily vacuuming and sierra keeping mommy busy!!!!!!!!!!

everything's growing

Sierra has been working on cutting teeth for what seems like forever and we finally saw the first little bit of white at the beginning of this month. Both bottom teeth are coming in together and they are super cute! Instead of being flat on the top, they have little ridges and are so cute. It's amazing how she instantly looks so much older with just 2 teeth!

it's hard to get a good shot of them, but here's a little peek...(i know, it's hard to focus on the teeth with all that orange food on her face and in her hair!)

and her hair is finally growing too! it's so funny when she wakes up with bed head :)

i've tried to put some headbands on her but they don't stay on her head more than 1 second. i was trying to put the headband on with my left hand and hold the camera with my right hand so i could i could snap the picture before she pulled it off and i couldn't get it in time!! she's quick! she'd just rather chew on it :)

Sierra is changing SO much every day! I just want to record some of it, so I don't forget.

in the last couple of weeks, ...

...she started saying "mmmum, mmmum", not quite "mama" but closer! - but only while eating (she has been saying "dada, dadada" for a while)
...she has gone from extending her arms with her bum straight in the air, to scooting backwards and around in circles, to getting up on all fours in crawl position...she will be crawling any day now!
...her first tooth is now visibly coming through her gums
...her hair is almost long enough to hold a bow/clip for more than 5 minutes
...she is getting better and better at picking up small things with her thumb and index finger
...she LOVES to hold your fingers/hands and walk around - she is still not stable enough to stand on her own for long, but she will walk around with you all day if you let her
my goal this week: babyproof our house! clear off low shelves, cover outlets, buy a babygate!!! and we lowered her crib mattress tonight before she went to bed. she is growing up sooo fast!

today is Argentina's 200th birthday!! (Independence Day) ...Central Market in Texas did a 2 week celebration by adding some traditional Argentine food to their menu (which by the way was NOT nearly as good as the real thing - obvio!), wine tasting, Argentine cooking classes and some tango dancing and lessons. the 3 of us went out last weekend and it was actually pretty disappointing - there's no party like an Argentine party...in Argentina. this one didn't even compare. but it was fun to go out and proudly sport our blue and white! ...actually, we went to Costco first and met 2 Argentines who work there! they approached us because of our jerseys and kyle even exchanged numbers with a guy so that they can play truco!!!!!!!!!!

Sierra loves to look at the clothes hanging in her closet. Whenever I am carrying her and we walk by the closet, she gets really excited and reaches towards the clothes. When I take her closer, she always reaches for the same one, every single time...and with a big smile on her face...

...her new happy grin - it's adorable...she squints her eyes, wrinkles up her nose, opens her mouth just enough to show off her gums and makes this "hmmm" sound of pure contentment. melts me heart :)

Sierra is changing so quickly these days I feel like I can't keep up! She is at such a fun stage right now and is super curious about everything!

I noticed recently that when I repeated certain words she would watch my mouth as I talked. So I did what any mom would do and started saying "mama, mama..." over and over again - she loved it and would watch my lips! (ok, so i decided to be fair and i say "dada, dada" too...but maybe a little less, haha :)

On Thursday night (at 7 1/2 months), Sierra broke out her first "words"! She talked to us for a good 15 or 20 minutes straight! It was hilarious and super super cute! We didn't get out the camera until towards the end but caught a little on video. :)

*I think she loves this new trick a little too much - last night when I put her to bed for the night she laid in her crib babbling for an hour and a half straight!(NOT exaggerating...ask Leslie or Lauren!) It was hilarious - she just talked to herself, very happily, until finally she was worn out and tired...an hour and a half later!!! We may have a big talker on our hands!*
