Sierra Speak

I am constantly amazed at how quickly Sierra's speech is improving. She picks up on things right away and will remember a random thing she heard days later. This is a REALLY fun (and funny) stage. She has me laughing out loud all the time. :) Some recent funnies: "Mommy, wanna color, babe?" "poo poo so cute. poo poo so piddy." (as i was changing her diaper. i guess she doesn't fully understand the definition of cute/pretty!) "Mommy, come back!! Hey, come back!!" (when i walked into the other room) "hey you..." (referring to me) Me: "Sierra, who did you play with at school today?" S: "a Jesus" (she's already learned the "churchy" answers!) Me: "Sierra, can you jump?" S: "Yeah! I do!" ("I do" is a common response to questions we ask. Most of the questions start with "Do you...?" so she's right on. But it's funny when it's not a do/did question and the response is still "yeah! i do!", very enthusiastically.) Me: "What else are you thankful for?" (as we're praying) S: "milk...tree...birdie...pate (plate)...milk..." (the list goes on as she looks around the room. precious. sometimes she goes through everyone in the family) her ABC's sound something like this (with the tune pretty right on): "A, B, C, D, E, F, G, elmo, P, Q, awe, SSS, T, U, V, W, XXX, ZZ,... know ABC,...with meeee" commonly heard throughout the day: "my hair hurt", "my knee hurt", "my arm hurt", etc., etc. It's like the boy who cried wolf - hard to know what's real!! picking up one of her animals and holding it right up to her face - nose to nose: "puppy, LOOK at me". (she hears this one a lot from me! i think eye contact is really important to make sure she is listening to me and she's trying to ignore me. i guess she's understanding it! ...or maybe just copying me.)

ready for the bumbo?

might still be a bit too small...

(this was about 2 weeks ago so i'll have to try again...he's growing so fast!)

girl stuff

first time we painted sierra's toe nails...to match mommy's of course...she LOOOVED it!

kisses

pime out

we are trying Time Outs around here as a consistent discipline strategy to see how it works for sierra. sometimes it feels like we make progress and sometimes it doesn't phase her in the least. she often will put herself there or stand there happily with no apparent sign of remorse.

this day, she decided to lay down the law herself...
...and Goo got the time out. this is the same spot that sierra goes to for time out. she put him in there saying "pime out Goo, pime out. have to yisten to mommy". not listening to mommy is the main reason she ends up there too.

maybe this means she understands?!

wake up baby reid!

sierra LOVES to help me get reid when his nap is over or when he wakes up. she runs over to him, gets in his face and says (yells) "heeeey baby reid, wake up baby reid!". poor guy is always quite startled.

she loves helping unwrap his swaddle and often tries to pick him up, "puhm here baby reid, puhm here" (come here)

these pictures are a little old, but you can see how it goes...

getting down at his level to talk to him
wrapping him back up

Reid's friends

such a sweet sister to give reid some friends to play with
but he's not too sure how he feels about having to share his play mat...
